How do you spend that precious day off? Do you lay on the couch and watch Here Comes Honey Boo Boo? If you do, then you are missing out on moments that could be better spent.
If you don't get your eyes open and participate in your life, then you just may miss it. Spending your free time watching other people's lives on TV instead of living your own is costing you minutes, hours, and possibly even years of self-growth, laughter, and companionship with loved ones.
Do you Want a productive weekend, but struggling for ideas?
Then check out these 7 tips to help your weekend be something other than just time away from work.
Alternatively, if you don't have anything specific if you need to get done, sometimes the best thing you can do for your future productivity is to give your mind a break.
Though it’s important to think about your business on the weekends, you shouldn’t be “plugged in” the way you are during the week. Don't be glued to the computer or checking your email incessantly. Instead, work on projects you enjoy or use the time to think about your business in a broader way. Ask yourself, “What do I want to accomplish this week, month or year?” Evaluate how your day-to-day activities are taking you closer to your long-term goals.
2. Get outdoors
Admittedly the weather is not always on our side — but if you’re prepared for whatever the elements might throw at you, then you shouldn’t be too concerned about getting out into the fresh air. Simply get outdoors and go for a walk, run, hike, cycle — or anything else you can think of! It’s amazing how getting a bit of exercise and fresh air will leave you energized — and if you share the experience with others, then that’s an added bonus. 4
3. Socialize and network at community events
We nearly always have the best time with our friends, yet sometimes we put off making that phone call to arrange something because we can’t be bothered. If you make the effort, though, you know it will be worthwhile! And if you’re short of ideas of what to do with your weekend, it’s likely that once you all get together you will be able to come up with a plan or together go shopping and choose gifts for family members or buy yourself something new like a new unique shirt or a new headphone. It’s okay if you go window shopping and pick up them on the Internet.
Moreover, you also need to interact with others. Local community events aren't just a way to get the kids out of the house; they're also perfect opportunities for you to network and meet new people.
Get some much-needed exercise. Whether you prefer to dance, lift weights or take a yoga class, just move. Regular workouts will make you healthier and less prone to illness. You’ll feel more energized and less anxious. You don’t have to train like an Olympian to benefit from exercise. A bike ride or a 20-30 minute walk around your neighborhood will do the trick and the fresh air will do you good. Focus on rejuvenation.

5. Do something fun on Sunday night
Sunday night blues are never fun. Instead of using those last few golden weekend hours to check through all your boring work emails, do something you'll actually look forward to. For me, it's watching Game of Thrones. For you, it might be reading a book, taking a run with your dog, meditating, or cooking a nice meal.
6. Don’t over-sleep
Though some people enjoy snoozing until noon on the weekends, it’s not beneficial to your wellbeing. When you change your sleep pattern, it throws off your natural circadian rhythm. If you sleep too many hours, you’ll likely feel groggy throughout the day. Try not to sleep more than two or three extra hours on the weekend.
7. Plan your upcoming week
Take the free time that you have on a Sunday to map out your entire week. Whether it's planning meetings, phone calls, setting deadlines for tasks, or even personal items like your food menus, you can get a head start on your entire calendar in advance. By doing this you can make sure that you accomplish and focus on the most pressing matters.
Planning your week ahead of time will also save you throughout the week. Instead of worrying about what you're going to eat and spending time looking for those items in your house, you can make a grocery list and get those items so you know exactly what you're going to make and that you have all of the ingredients on-hand.
Another idea is to take the time to reflect on the week gone by. Reflection is something you should be doing daily, but weekends are a great time to step back and think about what made you smile, what you're grateful for, what you've accomplished, and how to make the next week even better.
